The tracking units have an online control panel for their settings

The settings can be entered on the webpage and then saved, to be picked up by the tracking unit the next time it goes online

It's easy to see what the settings are. The settings can still be set by text if required.

The firmware will need updating to 3.540 or more recent for this to work. Any version more recent than 3.500 can be updated remotely.
